Owenbeg knew that this was going to be a tough match and so it turned out. Sean Poland got St John’s off to a good start with a 4 set win over Hugh Scott. Pat Mulholland made it one all with his win over Terry Murphy before Jim Mills win over Jason Gill extended the St John’s lead. Owenbeg won the next two matches but despite a couple of close matches that if won could have given the visitors a share of the points it was a comfortable win for St John’s at the finish.
